I should know how to fix this.” “I should have the skills to navigate this.” “Why is this happening to me? It should not be.” “I should've know, better.” “I shouldn’t tell anyone, people will judge me.” “I should say as little as possible, that will keep me safe from the gossip.” And the list went on and on. “Should’s” swirled around my think tank and ruined my days. I resisted the mess of my former business in every way. All this, during a time while I was starting MOVE THINK SMILE I got tossed like a matchstick in a hurricane. Life imploded when I faced one huge business fiasco. “The dirty name,”that obstacle leaving you swearing like a sailor, sums up my 2014. Slip, slide, bust, bend, lurch, smack, wipeout, the course was a literal soup, instead of “running” I was “mudskating.” The rain continued until noon, which meant 7 hours of deluge would leave the course a perfect muddy mess. Regarded as “soul stealers,” a Course Marshall disqualifies any elite racer should they fail proper obstacle execution. As an official Elite Course Marshal, it was my job to ensure the 7am elite competitors passed the requirements of getting over the obstacle. Only 10 hours later, my second volunteer shift started at 5am where pelting rain, my favorite race partner and two gregarious lifeguards kept me company as I prepared to referee “the dirty name.” An obstacle turning most participants into swearing sailors and no doubt a bit of a challenge. My first Battlefrog experience began with an 8am-7pm volunteer shift the day before the race! It was filled with chipper conversation, uncommon personalities, and lots of time hauling metal barricades. If you missed my last muddy experience, check it out here: Mud.

I didn’t think I was afraid of heights until I found myself covered in mud and losing my grip on an x-delta ladder and later staring down a 90-degree pitch on the Tsunami. They had mud, they had ropes, and they had walls, but what stood out was the height and intensity of their course. Each SEAL brings a unique background and set of skills to the table to make one difficult and insanely fun course.ĪpThe race took place at Carolina Adventure World it was my fourth race, and by far the most impressive when it came to obstacles. And, employees Navy SEALS like Adam Pietrzak (Lead Race Operations Director), Michael Getka (Regional Sales Manager) and Don Mann (CEO).

Obstacle course racing benefits and empowers my life, ultimately helping me SMILE more.īattlefrog is an obstacle course racing series founded by Navy SEALS Hector Delgado & Michael Donnelly. On my journey into the world of Obstacle Course Racing (AKA Mud Runs), I'll share how Physically MOVING and engaging with obstacles helps me THINK better by turning daily challenges into points of power. Why do I continue making such bold MOVEs? Number 4 in my quest to complete 13 OCR's this year is the 2015 Battlefrog Carolinas! And, it was epically challenging.
